R&D&i Innovation

In-house R&D applied to the marine environment

Our main R&D line is FotoBati, an ongoing project that develops a proprietary topo-bathymetry tool using drones, applied to coastal and intertidal areas.

Topo-bathymetry with drones, correcting water refraction

FotoBati is an internal R&D project at WMS — not a closed commercial service. We develop a proprietary tool that takes photogrammetry acquired with commercial drones over coastal areas, corrects the water-refraction error and automates the processing of intertidal imagery.

  • Goal: deliver land-to-water transition topo-bathymetry at a fraction of traditional cost.
  • Approach: commercial drone + proprietary refraction-correction algorithm + automated processing flow.
  • Pilot application: intertidal zones and shallow coastal waters where classical bathymetry can't reach.
  • Current stage: internal validation on real campaigns. Not commercialised as a standalone product.

Applications where we make the difference

Full CAD and GIS compatibility

We work with most CAD and GIS file formats — point clouds, vector and raster — and develop internal workflows to process photogrammetric and bathymetric data.

  • Automatic point cloud classification.
  • Automated processing of coastal photogrammetry data.
  • Bathymetry with semi-automated workflows.
  • Integration with standard CAD and GIS software.
